ADAMS JOINS EFFORT TO BOLSTER CIVIC EDUCATION IN KENTUCKY

Frankfort, KY (October 1, 2021) – Secretary of State Michael Adams has joined the Executive Committee of the Kentucky Civic Education Coalition, a non-partisan coalition formed by the Kentucky Council for the Social Studies to advocate for civic education in schools.

“The original purpose of public education was not to create employees, but to form citizens,” Adams said. “While we must train our young people for the workforce, we must prepare them for citizenship as well.”

The non-partisan coalition, made up of leaders across the Commonwealth, will advocate for civic education legislation, funding, and policies. Through collaboration with policy makers and organizations, KCEC will build public awareness of the importance of providing high-quality civic education in our public schools.

“A well-functioning democratic system is dependent upon the people who sustain it,” said Carly Muetterties, Chair of the Kentucky Civic Education Coalition. “That’s why it’s important that Kentucky’s young people develop an understanding of their institutions. Through this diverse, bipartisan network we will help ensure students are being provided quality civic education.”

KCEC will be holding an informational meeting on October 23rd. Membership is open to all interested Kentuckians. More information about the coalition can be found here.
