FRANKFORT, Ky (April 1, 2026) – Kentucky State Treasurer Mark H. Metcalf today announced the Commonwealth’s participation in #ABLEtoSave Month, a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) accounts and encourage individuals with disabilities to take steps toward greater financial independence.
This year’s theme, “Start Small. Big Possibilities.” highlights how even modest savings can help build long-term financial stability.
“#ABLEtoSave Month is a reminder that even small steps can make a big difference,” said Treasurer Metcalf. “STABLE Kentucky is helping residents build financial security and plan for the future without risking the benefits they depend on.”
ABLE accounts allow eligible individuals with disabilities to save and invest money tax-free for qualified expenses—including housing, healthcare, education, and transportation—without jeopardizing critical benefits such as Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
STABLE Kentucky, the Commonwealth’s ABLE program, continues to see strong growth under Treasurer Metcalf’s leadership, now managing more than $23 million in assets and serving families in 103 counties statewide.
“STABLE Kentucky is helping more families plan for the future with confidence,” said STABLE Kentucky Director Jordyn Pennington. “This month is about making sure every eligible individual knows this opportunity exists.”
The goal of #ABLEtoSave Month is to increase awareness of ABLE accounts and expand access to these financial tools for individuals with disabilities, their families, and those who support them.
