Frankfort Selected as Host City for 2027 Kentucky Historic Preservation Conference

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 18, 2026) – The Kentucky Heritage Council has announced that Frankfort, Kentucky, has been selected as the host city for the 2027 Kentucky Historic Preservation Conference, “Preserving Preservation: Leveraging Kentucky’s Historic Assets,” to be held May 12-14, 2027 at the Kentucky Historical Society.

The biennial conference brings together preservation professionals, community leaders, architects, planners, archaeologists and advocates from across the commonwealth to share best practices, explore emerging trends and celebrate Kentucky’s rich historic resources.

Frankfort was selected for its strong commitment to historic preservation, vibrant downtown and abundance of historic sites that reflect the commonwealth’s cultural and architectural heritage. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to participate in educational sessions, off-site tours and networking events while experiencing Frankfort’s historic neighborhoods, landmarks and riverfront.

“The Kentucky Heritage Council looks forward to working with the City of Frankfort to create a memorable experience for all our conference attendees,” said Craig Potts, Director/State Historic Preservation Officer, Kentucky Heritage Council. “Frankfort’s history, walkable downtown and preservation successes make it an ideal setting for this statewide gathering.”

Frankfort officials also expressed enthusiasm for welcoming preservation professionals and visitors from across Kentucky and beyond.

“Frankfort’s wealth of historic landmarks, successful rehabilitation projects and state/local history attractions will provide an enriching experience for conference attendees,” said Vicki Birenberg, Historic Preservation Officer with the City of Frankfort. “We are very pleased to be a partner in this production.”
