Gov. Beshear Presents Over $1.5 Million in Awards to Benefit Breckinridge County

Funds support cleaner water projects and local nonprofits

HARDINSBURG, Ky. (March 24, 2023) – Today, at the Breckinridge County Courthouse, Gov. Andy Beshear presented $1,542,505.56 to local utilities and nonprofits to support Kentucky families.

“Kentuckians deserve easy access to clean water so they can take care of their families and stay healthy,” Gov. Beshear said. “As Governor, but most important, as a dad, that will always be a top priority for me, along with supporting our local nonprofits that make a huge difference for our people when they need a hand up.”

“The funds we’re celebrating today will strengthen Breckinridge County and improve the daily lives of our people,” said Breckinridge County Judge/Executive Maurice Lucas. “We appreciate the state working with us to move our county forward. We’ll keep doing the work to make sure we’re continuing to meet the needs of our people.”

Cleaner Water Program
Gov. Beshear announced the commitment of $1,241,135 in funding from the Cleaner Water Program to utilities in Breckinridge County. As the projects progress the utilities will be reimbursed.

  • The City of Cloverport will use $252,000 to extend sewer lines to an RV park.

“Cloverport has a population of 1,119 and this is much-needed and greatly appreciated funding for our small town,” said Mayor Candy Weatherholt. “We will be using these funds for a sewer extension to our existing RV park located at the Highway 105 boat ramp. This extension will give us a boost in funds to make additional upgrades to the park site. Thank you so much!”

  • The City of Hardinsburg will use $750,000 to improve their wastewater treatment plant.
  • The City of Irvington will use $239,135 to replace over 600 service meters, benefitting over 600 homes.

“Since being in the legislature, I have been committed to bringing prosperity to Breckinridge County,” Representative Josh Calloway of Irvington said. “With the legislature’s dedication of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to the Cleaner Water Program, our county’s parishes and drinking water will be in a much better place. I am grateful for these awards and I look forward to continue fighting for my constituents.”

Nonprofit Assistance Fund
The Governor awarded $301,370.56 to six nonprofits in Breckinridge County. The awards come from the Nonprofit Assistance Fund, which is helping organizations across Kentucky recover from the effects of the pandemic. The funding comes from the federal ARPA, and Gov. Beshear supported the allocation of funds by the 2022 General Assembly. This funding will provide one-time direct relief payments to support the mission and long-term sustainability of each eligible nonprofit. The awards include:

“Our unit helps people in our county with urgent needs,” said Allyson Bennett, administrative assistant of the Salvation Army of Breckinridge County.

“St. Rose parishioners are very grateful for the funds you are providing to us here today,” Parish Finance Committee Chairman Marc Haycraft said. “Our church has sustained roof damage recently and the money will allow us to make necessary repairs. Our historic, beautiful church along the Ohio River has been hit by several storms and now we will be able to fix our church and parish hall roofs, as well as several other desperately needed repairs. This is a great day indeed and thank you so very much.”
