Kentucky Employment Services Available at Fort Campbell for Transitioning Military Service Members

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 12, 2019) — The Kentucky Career Center (KCC) is offering free employment and training opportunities to the approximately 400 service members who transition each month from Fort Campbell to civilian careers in Kentucky.

KCC provides services for transitioning military soldiers and their spouses including job referrals, job search, training and educational opportunities, resume assistance, skills assessments and referrals to other government agency services and programs across the state such as apprenticeship and on-the-job training.

Career center staff are co-located at Fort Campbell with the Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP), which provides opportunities and courses to ensure military service members and their spouses have the tools and resources necessary to successfully transition to civilian life. The post is located on both sides of the state line in Hopkinsville, Ky., and Clarksville, Tenn. Co-location of the career and SFL-TAP services creates an opportunity to connect transitioning soldiers with employment opportunities throughout Kentucky.

“This new partnership with Fort Campbell creates an opportunity for us to connect soldiers and their families with resources and employment opportunities in Kentucky,” said Education and Workforce Development Cabinet (EWDC) Deputy Secretary Josh Benton. “With their service record and many exceptional qualities, transitioning servicemen and women are invaluable to our workforce and communities. They have skills, knowledge and work ethic that any employer would be fortunate to find in an employee.”

Employers interested in hiring veterans are eligible to receive the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). The Work Opportunity Tax Credit provides financial incentives to Kentucky employers who hire job seekers individuals from targeted groups to reduce an employer’s federal income tax liability. Employers may receive up to $9,600 by hiring and retaining employees in selected groups.
