WEST LIBERTY, Ky. (Aug. 27, 2024) – Today, the Department of Corrections announced that Chrissy Smith has been promoted to Deputy Warden of Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) effective immediately.
“Chrissy Smith is most deserving of this promotion,” said EKCC Warden Shawn McKenzie. “She has the experience, personality and temperament for such a position and proven herself to be an asset to the institution.”
In 2011, Smith began her career as an Office Support Assistant II at EKCC and shortly promoted to Administrative Secretary and then Classification and Treatment Officer. During her tenure, she converted a general population dormitory into a Restrictive Housing Unit (RHU) and implemented the RHU Transitional Behavioral Modification Program.
She served as a team member on EKCC’s Crisis Negotiation Team and its Corrections Emergency Response Team. In addition, she is a graduate of the EKCC leadership program.
