FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 9, 2023) – Department of Corrections (DOC) Addiction Services Division Director Sarah Johnson today announced the promotion of Sherry Barrett to justice program supervisor. Barrett will oversee the division’s efforts in providing Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT). Her promotion is effective May 16.
“We are excited to have Sherry Barrett in this new leadership position,” said Johnson. “Barrett brings extensive clinical experience and knowledge that will serve her well in this role. She has shown that addiction recovery is her passion, and she actively works to be part of the solution to the drug epidemic in our great state.”
Barrett began her work in addiction treatment at a nonprofit community mental health center in the Kentucky River Region and remained employed with them for a decade. In addition to her experience in case management and crisis intervention, Barrett has been a counselor for individuals, groups and clients receiving medication for addiction treatment.
In 2021, Barrett began her career with DOC as a social service clinician in the substance abuse treatment program at Southeast State Correctional Complex.
A graduate of Lindsey Wilson College, Barrett earned her bachelor’s degree in human services and counseling and a Master of Education in counseling with a substance abuse counseling focus. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Associate (LPCA) and is actively working towards obtaining her license as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC).
