Little Sandy Correctional Complex Receives Near Perfect Audit Score

Frankfort, Ky. (Dec. 9, 2022) Little Sandy Correctional Complex (LSCC) received a near perfect audit score on its recent re-accreditation audit with the American Correctional Association (ACA). The prison achieved a total score of 99.8%. This marks the prison’s sixth accreditation in the history of the institution.

LSCC is a medium security facility located in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, with an inmate population of 1,050.

“I am proud of the staff at LSCC,” said DOC Deputy Commissioner Randy White. “It is difficult to receive a high score on an ACA audit and this achievement is a testament to the diligence and hard work of the people who made this happen.”

In announcing the scores, Audit Chairperson Michael Rucker was especially complimentary of LSCC. “A 99.8% score is an outstanding result and I really commend you for your accomplishment and encourage you to continue the process and maintain a very high standard for all of your employees,” said Rucker. “Continue providing outstanding programs – educational, vocational, social services, food service, medical – all the different categories in your respective areas contribute to this kind of outstanding result.”

LSCC Warden Shawn McKenzie praised his staff for the accomplishment. “I am extremely proud of the staff’s hard work and dedication. As a new warden to this facility, it is the staff who deserve all the credit for this audit, they have been the ones here day in and day out doing the work.”

This ACA accreditation consisted of approximately 573 standards that covered the security, operational, and programming aspects of the prison. Each of Kentucky’s prisons are audited by the ACA every three years and have a program security review every year. Kentucky has been a member of the ACA since the early 1980s.
