FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 30, 2022) – Kentucky State Penitentiary (KSP) received a near perfect audit score on its recent re-accreditation audit with the American Correctional Association (ACA). The prison received its initial accreditation in 1983 and this 99.1% audit score marks the prison’s 14th accreditation in the history of the institution.
KSP is a maximum-security facility located in Eddyville, Kentucky, currently with an inmate population of 437.
“I am very proud of the staff at KSP,” said DOC Deputy Commissioner Randy White. “Receiving a near perfect score is a significant achievement. This shows the high level of hard work and dedication of staff to meet ACA’s rigorous standards.”
In announcing the scores, Audit Chairperson Susan Lindsey was especially complimentary of KSP. She said staff of the Kentucky State Penitentiary face “unique difficulties” due to the type of facility it is and running the institution with fairly new staff, but these challenges have not prevented good leadership, good morale, and hard work.
KSP Warden Scott Jordan praised his staff for the accomplishment. “The determination and pure drive to succeed by all staff at KSP was highlighted in the ACA audit. However, it is far more impressive that the staff do this on a daily basis.”
This ACA accreditation consisted of approximately 573 standards that covered security, operational, and programming aspects of the prison. Each of Kentucky’s prisons are audited by ACA every three years and have a program security review every year. Kentucky has been a member of ACA since the early 1980s.
