Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex Receives Near Perfect Audit Score

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 4, 2022) – Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) received a near perfect audit score on its recent re-accreditation audit with the American Correctional Association (ACA). The prison achieved a total score of 99.6%. This marks the 11th accreditation in the history of the institution.

EKCC is a medium-security facility located in West Liberty, with an inmate population of 1,914.

“I am very proud of the staff at EKCC,” said DOC Deputy Commissioner Randy White. “Receiving a near perfect score is a significant achievement. This shows the high level of hard work and dedication of staff to meet ACA’s rigorous standards.”

In announcing the scores, Audit Chairperson David Andraska was especially complimentary of the EKCC staff and the morale of the facility’s inmate population. “That is a great score. You guys have had a lot of challenges for the last three years, like COVID-19 and short staffing, and it’s just amazing that you were able to accomplish what you did,” said Andraska. “Going forward, it looks like you have some great new programs. The warden is doing eKAMI, a program that I think is going to be outstanding for the state of Kentucky, and probably something that all other states are going to try to mimic as well.”

EKCC Warden David Green praised his staff for the accomplishment. “I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Every person I look at around this room, you’re rock solid. You do a great job in your positions and you take care of your areas and I really appreciate that. We took the auditors to some different places they probably weren’t going to originally go, and we took them there because we’re proud of those places and we wanted them to see you guys.”

This ACA accreditation consisted of approximately 573 standards that covered security, operational and programming aspects of the prison. Each of Kentucky’s prisons are audited by ACA every three years and have a program security review every year. Kentucky has been a member of ACA since the early 1980s.
