Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex Receives Near Perfect Audit Score

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 19, 2019) – The Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) in West Liberty recently received a near-perfect score on its re-accreditation audit from the American Correctional Association (ACA). The prison achieved a total score of 99.8%. This marks the 10th accreditation audit in the history of the prison.

Audit Chair Fred Campbell, from Arkansas, was very impressed with the staff at EKCC.

“The score I’m going to give you here is something that you’ve earned, it wasn’t given to you,” said Campbell. “I just want you to know that in ACA, you make this place work.”

The prison’s medical facility also received recognition from the auditors.

“The medical care that the patients receive here is second to none. You have a very caring staff and that is obvious,” said Medical Auditor Randy Cross, from Iowa. “They really care about the treatment people are receiving at this facility.”

Additionally, the third auditor, Brian Neagle of New York, acknowledged the staff for their hard work, dedication, and daily sacrifice in their roles.

“I want to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication,” said Warden David Green. “It is all because of teamwork and all of us pulling in the same direction. I salute you for what you do every day and thank you from the bottom of my heart. I think that you will be amazed at what we can accomplish moving forward.”

The Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex re-accreditation audit was a multi-faceted examination of every aspect within the prison. It consisted of more than 527 standards that covered security, procedures, training, and record keeping regarding offenders. The audit process requires constant monitoring and quality control checks. All Kentucky DOC prisons are accredited and all undergo a re-accreditation audit by ACA every three years and an inter-departmental audit every year.
