FRANKFORT, Ky. (August 25, 2026) – Attorney General Russell Coleman announced today the Attorney General’s Office secured a guilty plea of a former corrections officer.
On Monday, Ladonis Mayfield, 32, pleaded guilty to two counts of Sodomy Third Degree (Class D Felony) and one count of Official Misconduct First Degree (Class A Misdemeanor).
According to charges filed in Shelby Circuit Court, Mayfield sodomized a female inmate under his supervision while he was employed and on duty as a Corrections Officer at the Shelby County Detention Center. The abuse occurred twice on the same day.
Mayfield will receive a three-year sentence. He must complete the sex offender treatment program while in custody. Upon release, he will be subject to five years of post-incarceration supervision and required to register as a sex offender for life.

“No one is above the law, especially those entrusted to uphold it. We are grateful for the investigators and prosecutors who protected the integrity of the badge and put this criminal on the other side of a jail cell,” said Attorney General Coleman.
Kentucky State Police investigated the case. Assistant Attorney General Lindsey Studebaker prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
Sentencing has been scheduled for October 26th.
