FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 15, 2026)- Attorney General Russell Coleman announced today the indictment of the man responsible for the deadly April 30th bank shooting in Berea.
On Wednesday afternoon, a Madison County Grand Jury indicted Brailen Weaver, 19, on two counts of Murder (Capital Offense) and one count of Fleeing and Evading (Class C Felony).
According to the indictment, the defendant shot and killed two bank employees.
Breanna Edwards was a teller at U.S. Bank and had been married almost a year. She was 35. A picture of Breanna is available here.
Brian Switzer was a manager at U.S. Bank. The husband and father of three was 42. A picture of him is available here.
Because of the heinous nature of the crime and the loss of life, Attorney General Coleman intends to seek the death penalty.
While state and federal prosecutors are collaborating, the Attorney General’s indictment is separate from the ongoing federal case.
The Kentucky State Police investigated the case. Deputy Attorney General Rob Duncan and Criminal Chief Rewa Zakharia presented the case on behalf of the Commonwealth. They will be joined in prosecuting the case by Violent Crime Resource Prosecutor Tom Lockridge and Madison County Attorney Jennie Haymond, in her capacity as a Special Assistant Attorney General. The Executive Director of the Office of Victims Advocacy Robyn Diez D’Aux is providing victims services.
The Kentucky Supreme Court’s rule on trial publicity limits information the Office can provide publicly.
The charges in an indictment are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
