AG’s Office Shuts Down Fraudulent Louisville Moving Company, Secures Compensation for Consumers

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 14, 2026) –Attorney General Russell Coleman announced today the permanent closure of a Louisville moving company following a court order.

A Franklin County Circuit Court judge ruled in favor of the Attorney General, permanently barring Margaret’s Movers and its owner, Margaret Weathers, from providing moving services in Kentucky. The Court also ordered the defendants to pay more than $234,000 in civil penalties and consumer restitution.

The Office of the Attorney General took action against the company last year after receiving consumer complaints. An investigation revealed Margaret’s Movers repeatedly failed to return consumers’ property after storage, refused to disclose the location of stored items and failed to compensate consumers for damaged belongings. With assistance from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the Attorney General also learned that the business had been illegally providing moving services in Kentucky for nearly a decade.

“Predatory businesses, like Margaret’s Movers, are on notice: take advantage of the trust of your customers, and we will shut you down,” said Attorney General Russell Coleman.

The Attorney General’s Division Chief for Consumer and Senior Protection Chris Lewis led the Commonwealth’s effort, along with Deputy Director for Consumer Protection Jonathan Farmer and Assistant Attorney General John Ghaelian.
