K9 Charity to get donation of life saving body armor

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 12, 2026)– Attorney General Russell Coleman announced today K9 Charity will receive a bullet and stab protective vest following a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Charity joined the Attorney General’s Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in May 2024.  The yellow lab is trained to sniff out and detect easily hidden electronic storage devices that could contain child sex abuse material including cell phones, flash drives and micro-SD cards. With her handler, DCI Detective Shelby Guffey, Charity has been involved in more than 30 searches with partner law enforcement agencies and been successful at each one.

“K9 Charity is a force multiplier as we collaborate with law enforcement partners to keep Kentucky families safe.  Her protection as she enters dangerous situations is of the upmost importance and we are grateful for Vested Interest in K9’s for their commitment to our four-legged officers,” said Attorney General Coleman.

Delivery of the vest is expected within 10 weeks. K9 Charity’s vest, sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., will be embroidered to read, “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.”

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies. The organization has provided over 6,348 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, thanks to private and corporate donations.
