Attorney General Coleman Secures Seven Felony Indictments for Former Eastern Kentucky Police Officer

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 21, 2025) – Attorney General Russell Coleman announced today that action from the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit resulted in the indictment of a former Paintsville Police Officer on 11 felony and misdemeanor charges.

A Johnson County Grand Jury indicted James Bradley, 37, of Paintsville, on two counts of Assault Third Degree (Class D Felony), five counts of Wanton Endangerment (Class D Felony), and misdemeanor charges involving driving under the influence and reckless behavior.

According to court documents, Bradley was operating an ATV under the influence when he assaulted two police officers and several others in May 2025.  At the time, he was an officer with the Paintsville Police Department.

The Paintsville Police Department investigated the case, which was presented to the Grand Jury by the Office of the Attorney General.

The Kentucky Supreme Court’s rule on trial publicity limits information the Office can provide publicly.

The charges in an indictment are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
