‘It’s time to get America back on track, protect Kentuckians’ wallets and ensure reliable and affordable energy is available for years to come’
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 16, 2024) – Attorney General Russell Coleman called on President Biden to abandon his proposed pause on liquified natural gas (LNG) exports. In a letter, General Coleman joined 22 other Republican attorneys general urging President Biden and U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm to support America’s energy reliability, affordability and security needs.
“The Biden Administration’s relentless assault on American-made energy will only benefit our adversaries in Russia, Iran and China. President Biden must abandon his radical green agenda that threatens our national security and our economic stability,” said General Coleman. “By undercutting American energy independence, this Administration has driven consumers into the hands of hostile nations that do not support our interests or our values. It’s time to get America back on track, protect Kentuckians’ wallets and ensure reliable and affordable energy is available for years to come.”
The U.S. is the largest producer of LNG. If its market is closed, consumers will be forced to turn to other suppliers, including the next largest producers: Russia, Iran and China. The Biden Administration’s LNG export pause – which by all accounts was absurdly inspired by a TikTok influencer and not actual experts -- will embolden Iran and Russia and hamper the U.S.’s ability to protect itself, according to the letter from the attorneys general.
“This surprise freeze is unlawful, harmful to our economy, and detrimental to our national security,” the letter reads. The attorneys general urged the Biden Administration to change course on the export pause immediately.
Attorney General Coleman joined Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrissey and others in opposition to a Biden plan to indefinitely cease the export of natural gas.
