Attorney General Cameron Finalizes $102 Million Settlement with Walgreens

FRANKFORT, Ky. (November 15, 2023) – Attorney General Daniel Cameron today announced the finalization of his latest win in the fight to end the opioid epidemic—a $102 million settlement with Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc., and its subsidiaries.

The agreement resolves allegations that Walgreens engaged in unlawful business practices that exacerbated the opioid epidemic. As part of the settlement, Kentucky will receive more than $102 million over 15 years. In addition, Walgreens has agreed to monitor, report, and share data about suspicious activity related to opioid prescriptions.

“This settlement has been a long time coming,” said Attorney General Cameron. “And while nothing can truly fix what the opioid epidemic has stolen from us, this money is a glimmer of hope for Kentucky—real dollars for real recovery.”

No attorney general in the Commonwealth’s history has secured more significant victories for opioid recovery than Attorney General Cameron. In June, as part of a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general, he secured a multibillion-dollar, national settlement with Teva, Allergan, CVS, and Walgreens. And in September, due to his efforts, checks for more than $8 million were issued to multiple projects that curb the drug crisis in every corner of the Commonwealth.
