On Friday April 4 and Saturday April 5, the U.S. 23 Country Music Highway Museum will stage educational programs on country music in conjunction with an ongoing exposition of the Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit, “New Harmonies.”
The Friday session on Kentucky singers starting at 6 p.m. will be led by Dr. James Claypool. Admission is an $8 suggested donation that will benefit the Keith Whitley Foundation in Sandy Hook, Ky. Music and food will accompany the program.
The Saturday session, led by former Johnson County Librarian June Rice, also starts at 6 p.m. Admission is free. The program will cover the artists of the U.S. 23 Country Music Highway region, from Loretta Lynn to the late Keith Whitley.
Live music will be performed at both sessions. Visitors will also have the opportunity to tour the Smithsonian exhibit “New Harmonies”, which celebrates American “roots music.” The exhibit will remain at the Paintsville museum through April 24.
