UNION, Ky. – The 22nd Annual Salt Festival at Big Bone Lick State Park in Union will be Oct. 19-21.
This celebration of 18th century life will include many hands-on demonstrations and activities for people of all ages including flint knapping, salt making, weaving, spear throwing, storytelling, music, and lots more. Entertainment will be provided by Annie Oakley and Company.
Craft items will be on sale and there will be a food court. There will also be an atlatl spear-throwing contest. The atlatl was a stone used by native people to help throw a spear.
The Salt Festival will be open Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children ages 5-12. School groups must pre-register by calling the park. For more information, call 859-384-3522.
Big Bone Lick State Park in Boone County has a campground, nature center, outdoor museum, bison herd, hiking trails, a small lake for fishing, mini-golf, picnic and playground areas and a gift shop.
The park is located 22 miles southwest of Covington on KY 338, off U.S. 42-127 and I-71 / I-75.
