CORBIN, Ky. – Storm- and tornado-damaged portions of Cumberland Falls State Resort Park will reopen to the public on Thursday May 15 after being closed since the storms hit last Sunday night.

“This includes the gift shop, snack bar, and visitors center near the falls and the trail to beach area,” said Park Manager Lisa Davis.  Also reopened is Trail 9, which had been closed along with the park’s other hiking trails until further notice.

The park’s campground, lodge and restaurant, which were not damaged by the storms, have remained open during this time.

 “Cleanup is going at a fast pace and much progress has been done,” Davis said.  “This is due to the large number of agencies and volunteers and the determination and hard work of the park maintenance staff.”
 
The annual Cumberland River Clean-Up is still scheduled for Saturday May 17 at the park.  Volunteer registration is set to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday near the falls. Volunteers are still needed for the river clean-up and are encouraged to come out for the event this Saturday. Volunteers will be treated to a cookout and tee-shirt giveaway immediately following the clean-up.
