JAMESTOWN, Ky. – Looking for a fun way to celebrate Earth Day? Come to Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Parks and mark the occasion by participating in the 3rd Annual Geocache Weekend, April 18-20, 2008.

Lake Cumberland State Resort Park will be the host of the event on Friday and Saturday. The park is located at 5465 State Park Road in Jamestown, Ky. On Sunday the action moves to Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park, 6371 State Park Road in Burkesville, Ky.

Geocaching is a new sport based on a traditional activity known as “treasure hunting.” Participants use sophisticated positioning equipment to track down sites containing objects placed there before the competition.

This event is designed for the beginning cachers to the experienced veterans. Please bring your own GPS. $20.00 per couple (additional children $10) and $10 per individual. Each couple will receive two geocaching weekend t-shirts and an instructional presentation. For registration contact Robert Myers at RobertA.Myers@ky.gov or call 1-800-325-1709.

For more information on Lake Cumberland’s Geocache Weekend, contact Van Back at 270-343-3111.

Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow Lake are two of the top recreational lakes in the southeastern U.S. Despite Lake Cumberland’s lower water level due to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ongoing repairs to Wolf Creek Dam, the lake still is the third largest in Kentucky with more than 37,000 acres of water.
