FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Arts Council, with funding from the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, has awarded over $6,000 to date in Product Development Grants for artists to create special Lincoln-themed products commemorating the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth in Kentucky. Artists participating in the Kentucky Arts Council’s Kentucky Crafted™ Program who already have products relevant to the Lincoln era have also been invited to participate. These unique, high-quality products include hand-crafted items that are historic replicas; commemorative pieces; and prints and note cards produced from original artwork.
Visitors to the upcoming Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Inaugural Celebration on February 12, 2008 in Hodgenville will have the first chance to see and buy many of the products. There will also be a Lincoln Showcase featuring the collection at Kentucky Crafted: The Market on March 8-9, 2008 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.
Lincoln products will be sold later in retail venues across Kentucky, including but not limited to the Lincoln Museum in Hodgenville, selected Kentucky State Parks gift shops, the Kentucky Artisan Center in Berea, and the 1792 Store at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in Frankfort.

On February 12, Kentuckians can be a part of history during the official kick-off ceremonies for the Abraham Lincoln bicentennial at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site in Hodgenville. This event is free and open to the public. The inaugural program begins at 10:30 a.m. EST, but the site will be open to the public beginning at 7 a.m. Bus transportation will be provided and public parking is available.
Featured guests are First Lady Laura Bush, Governor Steven L. Beshear, Pulitzer-Prize-winner Doris Kearns Goodwin, and Sam Waterston, best known for his television role as an attorney on Law and Order. The American Spiritual Ensemble and Saxton's Cornet Band will provide music.
Kentucky's Abraham Lincoln, the KHS HistoryMobile exhibit, will debut at the event before traveling across the state. Representatives from Kentucky's Lincoln sites and Lincoln-related merchandise and art will also be available.
The Kentucky Arts Council is a state agency in the Commerce Cabinet that creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts.
