FRANKFORT, Ky. — Visitors to the Capitol on Derby Day morning will have an opportunity to purchase some of Kentucky’s finest traditional and contemporary pieces of work at the Governor’s Derby Celebration. Artists that have been accepted into the Kentucky Arts Council’s Kentucky Crafted® or Visual Arts at the Market programs will line Capital Avenue in festive tents offering jewelry, wearable art, pottery, photography, baskets, furniture, paintings, gourds and much more.
A sampling of many of the items that will be for sale at the Governor’s Derby Celebration are currently featured in a Capitol display case through May 5, 2008.
The traditional Governor’s Derby Celebration is held on the state capitol grounds on Saturday, May 3 from 7 to 11 a.m. and is free and open to the public. Each year thousands of people participate in a southern-style buffet breakfast and browse the grounds to experience hot air balloon rides (weather permitting), entertainment, artist booths and other activities. Continuous shuttle service to the breakfast begins at 6:30 a.m. from parking areas located at Juniper Hill Park and the Cabinet for Human Resources building. For more information go to www.kentucky.gov.
