- June workshop to focus on repair, preservation of historic square log buildings
Thursday, May 15, 2008 FRANKFORT, Ky. – Registration is being accepted for Practical Preservation: Square Log Building, a hands-on workshop planned June 22-27 at Pine Mountain Settlement School in Harlan County. The course will feature instructor and log building expert Moss Rudley of the National Park Service Historic Preservation Training Center in Frederick, Maryland.
- KY Historic Preservation Review Board to meet Thursday at Lexington History Museum
Wednesday, May 14, 2008 FRANKFORT, Ky. – The next meeting of the Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board will take place at 10 a.m. (EST) Thursday, May 15 at the Lexington History Museum (the former Fayette County Courthouse), 215 W. Main Street. The meeting is open to the public.
- Communities invited to learn more about marketing sites along the new Kentucky Lincoln Heritage Trail
Monday, May 12, 2008 A series of workshops on Marketing Lincoln and the Kentucky Lincoln Heritage Trail is planned over the next two weeks to assist local communities and historic sites in cooperatively promoting places associated with President Abraham Lincoln as well as nearby businesses and attractions of interest to the traveling public.
- Kentucky Main Street Program communities announce Downtown Living Tours in May, June
Monday, May 05, 2008 To highlight the variety of downtown housing options available in communities of all sizes across the state, a series of Downtown Living Tours is being offered throughout May and June by local programs that participate in the Kentucky Main Street Program, administered by the Kentucky Heritage Council / State Historic Preservation Office. The tours are free.

- Louisville to host 30th Annual Meeting of the National Council on Public History April 10-13
Monday, April 07, 2008 Workshops, tours and plenary sessions focusing on the theme "Public Histories of Union and Disunion" will highlight the 30th annual meeting of the National Council on Public History (NCPH) April 10-13 at The Brown Hotel and other venues around Louisville. Andrew Ferguson, author of "Land of Lincoln: Adventures in Abe's America," are among the presenters.
- Historic brickwork expert to present free lecture Monday in Lexington
Tuesday, March 25, 2008 The public is invited to a free lecture with internationally known historic brickwork consultant and educator Dr. Gerard Lynch at 7 p.m. Monday, March 31 at Lexington Public Library on the topic of Putting Value Back into Craft Education.

Wednesday, March 05, 2008 A tour of prehistoric and historic sites throughout Boone County and presentations about archaeological investigations and research that have been conducted across the state in the last year will highlight the 25th Annual Kentucky Heritage Council Archaeology Conference Friday through Sunday, March 7-9 at Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights.
- Three projects awarded Kentucky African American Heritage Commission Lincoln Preservation Grants
Wednesday, March 05, 2008 Three Kentucky African American Heritage Commission Lincoln Preservation Grants have been awarded to projects that highlight African American heritage in relation to President Abraham Lincoln. These include an original play centered on Lincoln's authorship of the Emancipation Proclamation, a museum exhibit focusing on Logan County General Stephen Burbridge, and an investigation seeking to identify and preserve the burial site of an African American regiment ambushed near Simpsonville during the Civil War.
- Nominees sought for 30th Annual Ida Lee Willis Memorial Foundation Preservation Awards
Friday, February 22, 2008 The Ida Lee Willis Memorial Foundation and Kentucky Heritage Council are seeking nominations for 2008 Ida Lee Willis Memorial Foundation Preservation Awards, given annually to individuals, organizations and projects that have made a significant contribution preserving Kentucky’s historic and prehistoric resources. This year marks the 30th anniversary of this signature statewide event.
- Session proposals invited for 2008 KY Historic Preservation Conference September 4-6 in Bardstown
Monday, February 18, 2008 Historic buildings, streets and landscapes throughout Bardstown and rural Nelson and surrounding counties will be featured attractions when the community hosts the 2008 Kentucky Historic Preservation Conference September 4-6. New this year: the public is invited to submit proposals for educational and field sessions or poster presentations by the March 31 deadline.
- New Kentucky Lincoln Heritage Trail Web site now online
Monday, February 11, 2008 A new Web site taking visitors on a virtual visit to historic sites along the new Kentucky Lincoln Heritage Trail has been launched in advance of national and statewide Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial commemorations Tuesday in Hodgenville. Like the real locations along the trail itself, the Web site at www.kylincoln.com maps the Kentucky people, places and events that shaped the Lincoln legacy and tell the story of his early years in Kentucky.
- New Kentucky Lincoln Heritage Trail unveiling planned February 12
Friday, February 01, 2008 FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky citizens and out-of-state guests are invited to join Governor Steve Beshear and other presenters as they unveil the first marker along the new Kentucky Lincoln Heritage Trail during a special celebration at 3 p.m. (EST) Tuesday, February 12 on Lincoln Square in downtown Hodgenville. The event follows the national Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial kickoff planned at 10:30 that morning at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site.
- Winchester to host Kentucky Main Street / Renaissance on Main Winter Meeting January 30-31
Monday, January 28, 2008 Promoting the benefits of downtown living and creating a climate conducive to attracting residents to central business districts will be the focus of 2008 training sessions presented by the Kentucky Main Street Program, which will highlight the community of Winchester during its Winter Meeting there January 30-31.
- Hands-on preservation skills training workshops announced
Friday, January 25, 2008 A series of hands-on historic preservation skills training workshops has been announced by the Kentucky Heritage Council/State Historic Preservation Office in conjunction with local partners around the state. The first, Historic Bricks: Discover the Lost Arts of Red Masonry, will take place April 1-4 at the Pope Villa in Lexington.
- KY Historic Preservation Review Board to meet Thursday in Lexington
Wednesday, December 12, 2007 The 21 nominations to the National Register of Historic Places to be considered during the next meeting of the Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board demonstrate the great diversity of historic sites in the Commonwealth as well as several good reasons why owners wish to have their property listed. These include qualifying for incentives such as state and federal tax credits and demonstrating the owner’s commitment to historic preservation.
