Frankfort, KY - Spring is here and the Kentucky Historical Society offers events and programs for Kentuckians of all ages throughout April.
On Saturday, April 7, the Kentucky Historical Society will take part in the third annual Easter Egg Roll, hosted by the Governor’s Mansion and the Frankfort Younger Women’s Club. The Egg Roll will take place on the Governor’s Mansion's north lawn beginning at 9 a.m.
Participants can visit the Kentucky Historical Society area and decorate Victorian Easter cards to celebrate the occasion. In addition, hundreds of young Kentuckians can enjoy games, stories, treats, and an Easter Egg Roll on the Mansion's north lawn.
Enjoy Spring Break Activities at KHS
During the week of April 10, students can visit the Kentucky Historical Society and enjoy many different activities each day. From Tuesday, April 10 to Friday, April 13 from 1 – 4 p.m., children can enjoy History Zone activities, including papermaking, Games of the Past, family folklore, and weaving.
Children can also enjoy the KHS History Zone activities from 1-4 p.m. every Saturday in April. This month’s theme is “Alfombras: The Art of Creating a Sawdust Carpet” where children can create their own alfombras, or carpet, of colored sawdust as part of traditional Easter celebrations of Guatemalan and other Latin American countries.
This free program is for children ages 5 – 10 and their families. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Groups of 10 or more must register in advance. For more information, contact Annette Parde, KHS Family Programs Coordinator, at 502.564.1792, ext. 4461.
Museum Theatre Performances Wednesdays in April
Beginning April 4, visitors to the Kentucky Historical Society can enjoy KHS Museum Theatre on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. Westward Into Kentucky: The Journal of Daniel Trabue brings frontier Kentucky to life in this autobiographical drama about westward expansion and Native American conflicts.
