Friday, May 09, 2008 Moving forward with his earlier commitment to be prepared for full implementation, Gov. Steve Beshear today announced the members of the Governor’s Task Force on Military Base Realignment. The task force was created by Executive Order on March 26, 2008, in order to supplement the state’s efforts in expediting the federal governments 2005 Department of Defense Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) recommendations.

- Governor Beshear Announces Passage of Adventure Tourism Bill
Friday, March 28, 2008 Gov. Steve Beshear announced that he will sign Senate Bill 196 which today passed the Senate unopposed. The “Adventure Tourism Bill,” sponsored by Sen. Brandon Smith (R-Hazard), allows the state to enter into agreements with private property owners for the use of land for recreational activities such as horseback riding, hiking, fishing, hunting and motorized vehicle use. Under the current law, property owners face liability issues if they allow the public to use their land.

Wednesday, March 19, 2008 Gov. Steve Beshear today announced a $40,000 Kentucky Office of Homeland Security grant to be awarded to McCracken County Fiscal Court. Part of the funds will be used for Mobile Data Computers (MDCs) for the Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office. MDCs allow officers to receive and transmit data while in their assigned vehicle, as well as compose their reports electronically.

Steve Beshear announced today the launch of Kentucky New Energy Ventures, a state program that administers $5 million in public funds for investment in promising renewable and alternative energy companies in the commonwealth. The program, established legislatively under the name, “Kentucky Alternative Fuel and Renewable Energy Fund Program,” was created by the state’s General Assembly under House Bill 1 during the 2007 Extraordinary Session.

Thursday, December 27, 2007 Governor Steve Beshear today announced the appointment of Charles Geveden, age 67, as Deputy Secretary for the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. Geveden has spent the last three years as the Executive Director of the Office of Criminal Appeals at the Attorney General’s Office.

Thursday, December 27, 2007 Governor Steve Beshear today joined West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin in expressing gratitude that hundreds of Appalachian nurses, who have been on strike since October, have reached an agreement with Appalachian Regional Healthcare and will return to work.
