Governor Beshear Appoints Members to State Board of Elections
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed the following members to the State Board of Elections to serve for terms expiring April 1, 2012, or until a successor is appointed:
- Robert E. Gable, of Frankfort, is employed by The Stearns Company in Lexington. He received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. The appointment replaces Charles W. Buchanan, whose term has expired.
- George W. Russell, of Frankfort, has spent the past ten years as an international elections consultant. He has previously served as executive director of the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance and the State Board of Elections. The appointment replaces John M. Caudill, whose term has expired.
The State Board of Elections, comprised of seven members, is an independent agency which administers the commonwealth’s election laws and promulgates administrative regulations necessary to properly carry out its duties.
The board also supervises the registration and purgation of voters, appoints the political party representatives to the 120 county boards of elections and certifies the official election results.
