Governor Beshear Appoints Members to Southern Growth Policies Board
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed the following members to the Southern Growth Policies Board to serve at the pleasure of the governor:
- Larry Hayes, of Frankfort, currently serves as secretary of the Governor’s Executive Cabinet. He previously served as both deputy mayor and secretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet for the City of Louisville. He will serve as the Governor’s Designee.
- Bonnie O. Tanner, of Harrodsburg, is a retired assistant director of Family and Consumer Sciences for the Cooperative Extension Service in the College of Agriculture at the University of Kentucky. She received her Doctorate of Agricultural and Extension Education from the University of Maryland. The appointment replaces Ellen C. Williams.
- John A. Bonaguro, of Bowling Green, is the dean of the College of Health and Human Services for Western Kentucky University. He received his Doctorate of Health Education from the University of Oregon. The appointment replaces Frank Jemley.
The Southern Growth Policies Board is composed of five members from each participating state. The governor of each state appoints two residents. The participating states are Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the territory of the Virgin Islands.
The purpose of the board is to improve facilities and procedures for study, analysis and planning of government policies, programs and activities of regional significance. The board assists in prevention of interstate conflicts and promotion of regional cooperation.
