On Saturday, November 17, Patricia Truett of McKee, will be creating her reed baskets for visitors to see from 10:30 am – 3:30 pm at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

Patricia first learned how to make baskets at the craft factory in Tyner, KY and when the factory closed she bought all of their materials and became an independent basket maker. Patricia took classes in basket making through the county extension office and then designed her own patterns. She uses round and flat reed with white oak handles. With more than 30 different baskets in her repertoire, Patricia enjoys making the market basket as well as her best seller the sewing basket. Patricia is a juried member of the Kentucky Craft Marketing program and five years ago was juried into the 65-member Appalachian Fireside Crafts Co-op.

A wide variety of Patricia’s beautiful and useful baskets are regularly available at the Kentucky Artisan Center, located just off Interstate 75 at exit 77 (Berea). The Center’s exhibits, shopping, and travel information areas are all open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the café from 8 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Admission is free. The Center currently features works by more than 650 artisans from 90 counties across the Commonwealth. For more information call 859-985-5448 or visit the Center’s web site at www.kentuckyartisancenter.ky.gov
